New Report Features 10 Best Practices for Jails and Prisons on Responding to Opioid Use Disorder

The study team identified ten OUD best practices that were consistently referenced in treatment and practice guidelines recommended by a variety of federal agencies and national organizations, as well as scientific literature.

Training and Technical Assistance (TTA)

The CTC provides free TTA to support community-based organizations in developing strategies to improve substance use disorder (SUD) treatment delivery and to facilitate practitioner and researcher partnerships.

The Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network (JCOIN) re-envisions how the justice system responds to addiction. The JCOIN Coordination and Translation Center (CTC) (PI: Faye Taxman, Ph.D., George Mason University) supports this crucial initiative through engaging with key stakeholders, disseminating products and findings, and providing infrastructure.

JCOIN is funded through the Helping to End Addiction Long-term℠ Initiative, or NIH HEAL Initiative℠. The NIH HEAL Initiative℠ is an aggressive, trans-NIH effort to speed scientific solutions to the national opioid health crisis. Launched in April 2018, the initiative is focused on improving prevention and treatment strategies for opioid misuse and addiction and enhancing pain management.
