National Jail Survey on Evidence-Informed Practices for Substance Use Treatment in Criminal Justice Settings (208)
Study Information
MAARC’s Survey Research Core, led by NORC, will conduct a national survey of substance use services in jails to examine uptake of evidence-informed SUD treatments in correctional settings. This project builds on the JCOIN 1.0 national jail survey (Protocol Number 028). It will assess the extent to which jails are using evidence-informed treatments to address substance use, SUDs and overdose; implementing FDA-approved pharmacotherapies (methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone); experiencing barriers and facilitators in offering SUD services in jail settings; and supporting transitions back into the community for drug treatment. The survey will utilize a nationally-representative sample of jails. Geographic data (e.g., on overdoses and deaths related to drugs and census demographic data) will be integrated into analyses to better explain the availability of various SUD services in the nation’s jails. Work is scheduled to begin in 2027.
