JCOIN PI Dr. Harold Pollack Receives Distinguished Professorship from UChicago

Dr. Harold Pollack, PI of JCOIN’s University of Chicago Clinical Research Center and MPI for the MAARC, has been named the Helen Ross Distinguished Service Professor at the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice and the Department of Public Health Sciences at The University of Chicago.  

Dr. Pollack’s research centers on improving services and interventions for people who experience substance use disorders and psychiatric disorders. He currently serves as the co-director of the University of Chicago Urban Health Lab. Pollack has authored over 190 academic publications, including recent JCOIN articles Critical access medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) treatment facilities in the continental United States,1 An inclusive approach to addiction care- Helping the helpers,2 and Speaking and learning across disciplines in the harm reduction debate.3

Dr. Pollack’s JCOIN study is an intervention trial that explores the effectiveness of linkage interventions for individuals with criminal legal system involvement and opioid and stimulant use disorders who are returning to communities. Beyond JCOIN, he also investigates interventions that lower the rates of violence during emergency first responder calls for services involving people living with serious mental illness and that boost Chicago youth’s mental health outcomes.
