Implementing Evidence-Informed Practices for Opioid Use Disorder
This course provides an overview of opioids and overdose risk and describes effective practices for treating substance use disorder (SUD). The course describes both practices and policies that can help or hinder successful overdose prevention and treatment for SUD.
Objective 1: define “evidence-based/evidence-informed practices” (EBPs) and identify some EBPs for people with or at risk for opioid use disorder (OUD) or other substance use disorder (SUD)
Objective 2: gain a solid knowledge base that will inform advocacy for effective practices to address OUD/SUD
Objective 3: learn about training and technical assistance resources available through JCOIN that help with selecting and implementing interventions
Lessons learned will include defining substance use disorder (SUD)/opioid use disorder (OUD), understanding the root causes of the overdose crisis, identifying evidence-informed practices for treating SUD, and understanding barriers that prevent people from accessing treatment.
