Kentucky Womenโ€™s Justice Community Overdose Innovation Network (WJCOIN-II)

This study follows women with opioid or stimulant use disorders as they leave three rural Kentucky jails and return to the community. It compares one-on-one recovery coaching (RC) to recovery coaching plus support person engagement (RC+SPE), then tests whether adding contingency management (CM) after release improves outcomes. Researchers will evaluate how these components reduce overdose risk and improve treatment initiation and retention, explore participant and stakeholder perceptions and implementation barriers, and assess the cost-effectiveness of the intervention package.

Study Aims

Compare the effectiveness of pre-release RC to RC+SPE in decreasing womenโ€™s overdose risk during reentry to rural communities

Compare the additive effectiveness of CM initiated post-release to RC alone and RC+SPE in decreasing overdose risk and increasing treatment entry and retention among women during reentry to rural communities

Contextualize the effectiveness of intervention components by examining the roles of perceived acceptability and appropriateness and identify barriers and facilitators to intervention implementation across the reentry continuum

Examine the economic impact of the intervention components of the WJCOIN-II Opioid Prescribing Improvement Program on the overdose risk of women in rural communities, both pre- and post-release
