Evaluating a Mobile Health Unit’s Methadone Dosing Services to Address Health Disparities (075)

Study Information

Diverse strategies to improve OUD treatment engagement and retention for those in the criminal-legal system are needed, particularly for improving transitions across systems of care. Use of mobile health units (MHUs) to provide low-barrier healthcare services is an innovative delivery model with strong potential benefits for individuals with criminal-legal involvement. However, evaluation of MHUs that provide MOUD, particularly methadone, is very limited. This project has two specific aims. Aim 1: describe and assess the effectiveness of an MHU’s MOUD services and compare patient characteristics and outcomes to patients served by affiliated brick-and-mortar facilities using a retrospective chart review of patient medical records. Aim 2: evaluate the MHU’s MOUD services from multiple levels of stakeholders using semi-structured interviews at organization (patients and staff from the MHU and brick-and-mortar facilities), community (external including criminal-legal) and systems (State Opioid Treatment Authorities) levels.
