Creating a Geospatial Community of Practice (209)
Study Information
Because substance use research spans multiple disciplines and has far-reaching needs within U.S. public health systems, it is crucial to share knowledge gained within cutting-edge research quickly and effectively. To address this, the MAARC’s Geospatial Data Core proposes to build a community of practice focused on the geospatial data science aspects of knowledge-generation in substance use and criminal justice work. Communities of practice assist in facilitating the finding, sharing, transferring, and archiving of knowledge, and help ensure that such knowledge will retain maximum impact. This activity will employ a community participatory approach to incorporate stakeholders in all stages of research, adopting ConNECT Framework principles to guide its dissemination & implementation plan. This framework integrates behavioral science and health research with synergistic principles of (i) integrating context, (ii) fostering a norm of fairness, (iii) ensuring diffusion of innovations across all groups, (iv) harnessing communication technologies, and (v) prioritizing specialized training. An inaugural call for participation is anticipated in 2025, with regular opportunities to engage with the Geospatial Core over the life of JCOIN 2.0.
