Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Evans, co-Principal Investigator of the Massachusetts JCOIN Research Hub, was recently promoted to Professor at UMass Amherst.

Through JCOIN, Dr. Evans and her team partnered with seven jails in Massachusetts to conduct a Type 1 hybrid effectiveness-implementation study of a program to expand provision of medications to treat opioid use disorder.

Dr. Evans’ research focuses on how health care systems and public policies can better promote health and wellness among vulnerable and underserved populations, particularly for individuals at risk for substance use disorders, mental illness, and infectious diseases. She joined UMass Amherst in 2017, and since then has focused on addressing the opioid epidemic particularly among criminally involved populations.
